Awarded for innovative coverage of the Boston Marathon
Just as we’re starting to prepare for the 128th Boston Marathon, my team is celebrating an award for our coverage of the 127th edition of that historic race. We were happy this week to receive the first place prize for digital media from Massachusetts Broadcasters Association’s 2023 Sound Bites awards.
Last April’s running of the Boston Marathon was our first as the official broadcaster, and the new relationship created numerous opportunities to expand our digital coverage.
Our planning process began around Thanksgiving and the first stories appeared soon after.
While our team provided exceptional coverage of the race and the massive undertaking that supports it, our many digital innovations included partnering with the race organizer on digital weather elements, a strategic focus on the stories of amateur runners and providing a way for every finisher to re-watch their triumphant moment at the finish line.
We’re all very proud of being honored for this work and we’re looking forward to bringing our new learnings and ideas to the race in 2024.
