Winning a brand-new award: ‘Excellence in Social Media’
The .com bubble had already gone boom and bust, but it took about more eight years before one of the major news industry groups incorporated “Digital” into their name. By that time, Facebook and Twitter had already graduated beyond college campuses and were well on the path to becoming mainstream.
It was not until this year, however, that the RTDNA added a category for “Excellence in Social Media” to the Edward R. Murrow Awards.
While I do complain that they were late to the party, I am proud to say that my team in Boston is the winner of the first edition of this award in our region and we are now in competition for the first national edition of the award! (Cross your fingers!)
Our entry focused on several posts regarding the opioid crisis in Massachusetts — an ongoing station initiative — and steps being taken to fight the problem.
