Let’s ban the phrase ‘gone viral’

An event is never a story because it has “gone viral.” It went viral because it was worthy of attention for some reason and that’s the same reason that may actually warrant news coverage.

In my view, there’s never a reason to fall back on that poorly defined and loosely used crutch phrase in titles or copy.
