Chief Nerd
I’m excited to announce two new social media accounts I’ve created for work: @kktvchiefnerd on Twitter and Facebook.
I opened both accounts on May 10, to lead by example as I push more of my coworkers in the newsroom to adopt and frequent social media outlets.
The “Chief Nerd” moniker comes from my attempt to spin the page toward my area of expertise – and more than a bit of my personality. I wanted to create a page that would have context and generate interest even if nobody recognizes me from my very rare television appearances.
Managing the station’s brand in social media is a focus of my position. I want to use these accounts, and all the accounts in our ecosystem, to personify our newsroom as an entity in the lives of our viewers/users.
My goal is to post to the Chief Nerd accounts about 10 times each week and see how they grow.

Update: My role in this experiment has ended, due to my departure from KKTV to work at KMGH. Since these accounts were originally created approximately 3 months ago, I accumulated 170 Facebook friends and 97 Twitter followers. I was also invited to one Tweetup to reflect and discuss on how Twitter impacted our experiences during the Waldo Canyon Fire.
